TRIBULATION WORKS PATIENCE

3. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

4. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident Hope of salvation.

5. And this Hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his Love.

Romans 5:3–5 NLT

Today’s Passage continues Chapter Five of the Book of Romans, where Paul teaches the besieged Roman church about the qualities contained within the Christian Characteristic of Faith. In yesterday’s Passage, Paus spoke about Peace through Faith, by way of God’s Grace, and how that progression of actions and attitude affects us.

Today we look at another progression of Christian Characteristics from Paul’s teachings that lead to an even Greater Outcome for those who claim His Family Membership. Verse 3 begins by referring to the culminating concept from Verses one and two; Grace. Paul tells us that the Glory we experience through Faith is not only applied to the good times we face.

Paul clearly states here that even in our Tribulations and Trials, the Tests that come to try our Faith, we can experience God’s Glory. In fact, it appears that Paul, in his very next statement, after mentioning the Peace that God’s Glory can provide, tells us that the same Glory is evident in our worst times as it is in our best.

Faith leads to Peace through God’s Glory or Power. But what if Peace will not be the outcome because of other, not-so-peaceful features of the situation? What if Tribulations rather than Peace confront our Faith? Well, there is a direct path through Faith stemming from this seemingly negative origin too. Paul is telling us that Tribulation is no excuse for our Faith to buckle!

Why? Because when you face it utilizing the Faith that God Provides us through His Glory or, in other words, His Direct Presence made available to us, our Tribulations are not just trying times to endure. Through the Power of His Glory and our activating Faith, the hardships accompanying Tribulation are transformed into something useful.

Tribulation plus our Faith, multiplied by God’s Glory, equals Patience. In my opinion, that’s a pretty good deal. All we have to do is provide Faith and Determination, and we get Patience out of the deal. But it doesn’t stop there.

We all know the progression of hardship; it rarely stops in its burgeoning stages. Problems almost always grow into some hulking monstrosity that looks so unbearable that it could never be overcome. But Paul is telling us something different. When we add our Faith in God’s Glory and His Ability to alter the heart of an individual even if He doesn’t correct the situation itself, we change the dynamic from Deficiency to Benefit.

So, we know that we will all face Tribulation, but if we do it with Faith, it will bring us Patience. But what’s so good about Patience? Well, Paul says that Patience, once it is assimilated, provides us with Experience. Through that invaluable Experience, we develop Hope because we have seen God do it before. Then we know that He can do it again, and all we need is the Faith to Activate His already available Glory.

Now that we have this Hope, we’re covered because Paul tells us that our Hope in God and His Glory will never leave us disappointed. There is a specific and noteworthy reason for that most powerful of God’s Gifts, Hope. It is because Hope in God leads directly to His Love, and that Love is connected to His Spirit.

Did you get that? Faith through Tribulation leads to Patience. Patience leads to Experience. Experience leads to Hope, and Hope in God’s Love leads to His Spirit! When facing the worst times we have ever experienced, we are closer to God’s Spirit than if we never felt hardship.

This is the spectacular benefit of Faith!

It leads us to God’s Spirit, and that Spirit is the Key to all of the things He has in store for us, including Heaven. Without it, we don’t have the Power to Endure and will miss our Reward. With it, we have everything we will ever need to Persevere. Do you have His Spirit in your life? If not, activate your Faith and watch as God’s Glory is Revealed.

Have a Wonder-Inducing Wednesday, and In Tribulation, Activate Faith, It Is Your Only Hope!
