Old Lions

I’ve been told that old Lions are more dangerous than young,

Because their best years are behind them and they know their time has come!

All the battles that they’ve fought, some they’ve lost but most they’ve won,

Are what gives them their advantage as they watch the setting sun!

All the wounds that they’ve inflicted are eclipsed by those they took,

Their intimidation factor goes much deeper than a look!

They recall the times behind them, when they roared and jungles shook,

They’ve forgotten enough lessons that could fill entire books!

Their experience is priceless to the generation next,

Plus their muscles still have potency, be careful if you test,

Their resolve, determination, or the mane around their necks,

For a heart that pumps with valor’s still alive within their chests!

Never disrespect a lion that is getting on in years,

They’ve contested many comers and they’ve conquered many fears!

All the scars, the broken teeth, and even nicks upon their ears,

Are the badges of their fortitude and trophies to their peers!
