DAILY WORD 8/21/20

27. It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.

Today’s passage continues on with the author of Hebrew’s Profiles of Faith and with the story of Moses, an Icon of Faith. Yesterday we talked about how he threw away riches and comfort for suffering and potential death by siding with his enslaved people the Israelites. Today we will cover exactly why he did this and what the repercussions were.

The tale of Moses is a familiar one for anyone who, like me, grew up under the pew. However, for those of you that are not as familiar let me give you a little background on his story.

Moses had been born in Egypt in a time when being a Jewish baby meant death but because of his family’s Faith, he was spared and raised in the palace of the very man who wished to see the Jews eradicated.

His mother, however, before sending him off to be raised by Pharoah’s daughter, made sure that he knew where he came from and who he really was. So, as he grew up, he saw the treatment of his people and it began to wear on him.

One day as he was making his way through Egypt, he came along a soldier beating a Hebrew slave and his anger overwhelmed him. He struck the soldier, killing him and saving the slave in the process.

But he was seen and his actions angered Pharoah. Moses fled into the wilderness to save his life abandoning his people to their fate. However, God was not through with Moses yet, not by a longshot.

God Showed Himself to Moses when he was in the wilderness in the Form of a Burning Bush and commissioned him with taking a message back to Egypt with him. He would free the Israelites from Pharaoh’s bondage…whether the King wanted to let them go or not.

Moses’s Faith allowed him to do as God Asked him to do but if you look at the text in Genesis 3 & 4, it wasn’t quite as simple as that. God indeed Called and Equipped Moses, and Moses was indeed full of Faith, however, his Faith did not preclude him from also being full of fear and doubt as well.

He was so afraid of what God had Told him to do that he actually angered Him by continually asking Him to send someone else and making excuses as to why he was not the right man for the job.

I’m not saying his fears were unfounded, he was wanted for murder after all, and by his own admission, he was a poor public speaker with little pull or authority before either the Jews or the Egyptians. But God had his back and that was all he needed.

Here’s the point; you may not always feel confident when God Calls you to do His Work but you must Know that if He has Called you, He will Support you in the effort, regardless of how dismal the outcome may look, or how you feel about your chances of success.

It’s not about your skillset or your ability, it’s about God’s Power and His Capability! If He has Called you, have Faith that he will Make a Way for you to accomplish His Will. It requires Faith to do God’s Will because as humans, we are woefully inadequate.

But as Philippians 4:13 clearly tells us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” That includes the thing He’s Called you to do that you think you could never pull off.

If it was only up to you and your own strength, you’d be right, you can’t do it. But through our Faith in God, we do not depend on our strength, we rely on God’s Power which is Infinite!

Exercise your Faith and lean into God’s Strength. He will always Make a Way for you to complete His Work. He is Faithful to Assist us so we, like Moses, even in the face of overwhelming odds, must be Faithful in Trusting Him. He Will Always Make a Way!
