DAILY WORD 8/12/20
7. It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:8 NLT
The next Profile on Faith that we’ll cover in today’s passage, comes from the example of Noah. Now, I’ll assume we all know the story of Noah’s Ark. Even people that have never stepped foot in a church know this story. But again, for those that may not be as familiar with it let’s review.
Generations after Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the Garden of Eden, the world and all the people in it had devolved from perfect Creations of God, Crafted in His Image, to sin-crazy maniacs whose only desire was to please the flesh and would do whatever it took to achieve that goal.
That may be a little bit extreme and cynical as far as a description of the state of things goes in the days of Noah. However, the Bible indicates that God was so Angry, Sick, and Tired of the people of Noah’s time that He Asked Himself why He had even Created mankind in the first place.
He Decided to Purge the planet of not only man but of the vast majority of its animal life as well but He went just short of eliminating His Greatest Creation altogether, finding one man and his family that He considered worthy of Salvation.
The Book of Genesis tells us that “Noah found Grace in the eyes of the Lord.” It does not say that he was perfect or even really worthy but God still offered him His Grace in order to Save mankind from total destruction.
Not only was Noah not worthy but as we explore further in the story of his life we see clearly that he wasn’t even really a good person. Noah was severely fawed and had plenty of issues that came out after his ordeal in the ark.
So, if Noah was a sinful man, much the same as all the rest of the men and women in the world at the time, what did God see in Him that allowed Him to offer Noah the Grace that Saved him from destruction with the others that perished in the flood?
It was his Faith. Noah heard a Voice from God telling him that He was going to destroy the Earth and that He was going to do it by means of a Great Flood. First of all, Noah had to Believe that he was not crazy and that the Voice he was hearing was indeed God’s Voice.
Secondly, and almost as important, God told Noah that the flood would come as a result of a torrential rainstorm. Now, for us today this Revelation would not be as hard to conceive as it would have been for Noah. Prior to the rain that destroyed the Earth, it had never rained…ever.
The planet got its moisture from dew that fell so rain was a concept foreign to mankind. Noah would have had no frame of reference for what God was about to do but he did as He Directed him anyway.
What God Directed Noah to do would have required a vast amount of faith as well. He asked Noah to Build a gigantic boat with only one massive door to access it, and once it was constructed, to house a pair of each animal created within that boat. The door was so big that Noah himself could not even close it.
How was this all supposed to work? Giant boat full of vicious wild animals. Rain (that had never been seen before) so overwhelming that it would overcome all the life currently present on the entire planet. A door so large that it couldn’t even be closed.
Wouldn’t they be eaten by the very beasts God was telling him to gather and house? Wouldn’t they drown from the rain if the door couldn’t be closed? And what of the people? Wouldn’t they mock and deride Noah and his family for their ridiculous actions?
None of this deterred Noah from acting. He heard God’s Voice and did what he was told to do without question or wavering from the task. His Faith is what Saved him, not his Righteousness. Sound familiar?
Today, when God Offers us His Spirit onto Salvation it is not our good works or nonexistent righteousness that He sees that covers our sins, it is His Blood! Only our Faith in the Power of His Blood to Save us gives us the ability to escape the coming flood of fire that is next to drown the earth.
Noah is profiled as the next Giant of Faith because his Blind Belief in God to Make a Way even when he couldn’t see a Way exemplifies the very thing that is required for us to be Saved from the coming destruction of this world.
We would do well to heed his decisive actions stemming from his Faith in God to do as He said and model them. It is only this level of Faith that will allow us to be Saved from what is on its way next.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday Stay Safe out there!
