DAILY WORD 7/29/20

3. But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year.

4. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5. That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer.

6. You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other offerings for sin.

7. Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God — as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”

Hebrews 10:3–7 NLT

Today’s passage is another one that I am taking my time with. You can say it is one more Nugget of “Meat” I’m offering for you to chew on so that you are not overwhelmed with too big a bite of Goodness.

The author is continuing his thought from yesterday when he was talking about the “shadow of Good Things to come”, the need for annual sacrifice for the sins of the people, and the ineffectual impact of the old sacrifices, in that they only pushed back the iniquity of the people, therefore the guilt created by their sin still remained.

Here the author is saying that the annual sacrifices that the Levitical priests offered for the sins of the people actually worked against the betterment of the sinners in that because the offered blood of bulls and goats was only a temporary atonement and did not eradicate the sin, every time they went in again for the day of atonement they were reminded anew of their old sins coupled with the new.

Why was this? Because, as it is stated in Verse 4, “it was not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.” The best those ineffectual sacrifices could do was offer a temporary provision for the sins, not a True Atonement.

This is why, when Jesus came into the world, He confirmed that God was not Happy with the old offerings. He knew that God would need a Better Sacrifice in order to Fully Atone for the sins of the people and that Better Sacrifice required Better Blood.

Jesus Knew from the start that His was the Body that would become the Offering that Atoned for the sins of all the people that would Believe in Him. He Knew that He was the Sacrifice that was Required to Wipe Away the sins of the world.

Can you imagine the Weight that such Knowledge would've hefted upon Him? Yet, in spite of the very real Gravity He carried in His Spirit, Jesus Submitted to the Fate that awaited Him. And we still can’t submit to His Will for us by sacrificing our wills to His Plan for us?

We deserved to die for our sins but He Stepped In and Took the Punishment for our transgressions. Don’t we owe Him at least that minuscule level of sacrifice for the Ultimate Sacrifice that He Made for us?

Have a Wonderful Wednesday and Stay Safe out there!
