13. Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity.

14. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

15. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.

Hebrews 9:13–15 NLT

Today’s passage is another one that is packed full of “Meaty” Goodness! So, speaking of meat, what’s the one thing about meat that is uniform throughout all forms of its procurement? Blood. All meat comes from animals and all living things in order to be considered alive have blood flowing through them.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, this passage is all about Blood. In the Religion of Judaism in order for sins to be cleansed the blood of bulls and goats had to be shed then the sacrifice had to be burnt on the altar before God. Once burnt, the ashes of a young female cow, or heifer, were utilized for purification.

So, it was essential for purification and remission of sins in the old system of the Jewish Religion for the death of a flawless animal to occur. This was done once a year for all the people and unfortunately for them, it only “rolled back” their transgressions.

This is why Jesus was sent to the Cross to die for our sins. Clearly, the old system was inadequate to cleanse all sins and erase them forever. In order for that to occur a “More Perfect Sacrifice” was required.

Jesus Himself became that Sacrifice that was required not only to Cleanse us from our past sins but to Eradicate all of our future sins as well even before we committed them. That, however, is not to say that we have a free slate to live however we want and still be forgiven.

The New Covenant that Jesus made with us through the Shedding of His Blood Requires that we Repent and Turn Away from our old ways. That means that we can’t just live however we want and then expect to be able to come to God and have our willful sins erased.

It requires an act of Determined Resolve to live as Jesus lived; sinless, for us to be in compliance with the New Covenant. Jesus, however, knew from experience that there would be times when we slipped. So, He came to be the Mediator between us and God so that our repented sins would be Eliminated through the Covering of His Perfect Blood.

This Perfect Blood was a Superior Sacrifice for many reasons. It Forgives the sins of all who repent, regardless of what they have done.

It pays the price for all believers freeing them from the very real powers of Satan and his minions. It gives Holy Justification to all those who believe in God.

It Cleanses believer’s consciences from their guilt so that they can serve God without impediment. It Offers Sanctification to those that believe in Him.

It offers a Path for believers to come directly to God through the Spirit to receive Grace, Mercy, Salvation, and whatever Assistance we need to serve Him better.

Its Covering Guarantees all believers the Promises that He Made to us through the New Covenant. And finally, it Purifies, Reconciles, and Redeems us as we draw near to Him through the Conduit of Jesus Christ by the Power of His Spirit and the Purity of His Blood.

This is why Jesus came to die and this is the Unlimited Power of His Shed Blood! The old system had no chance of Freeing us from all that held us captive as did Jesus’s Blood. It was only His Sacrifice that contained what we would need to Buy our Salvation. It was all in His Blood!
