11. So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world.

12. With his own blood — not the blood of goats and calves — he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.

Hebrews 9:11–12 NLT

Today’s passage is another brief one that I am singling out to ensure that the point that the author is making is not lost in the cornucopia of Meaty Goodness that this Chapter and frankly this entire Book encompasses.

A big portion of the duty of the high priest was to enter into the Most Holy place to offer sacrifices of blood for the sins of the people and before he did so, he had to first offer sacrifices for himself in order to wash clean his own transgressions or be in danger of death.

However, Jesus, as it is stated in Verse 11, Took Residence of a “Greater, More Perfect Tabernacle in Heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world.”

When He died on the Cross and tore open the veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple, Jesus made obsolete the entire necessity of that separation because the Spirit of God no longer dwelled within that space.

Jesus, upon His Ressurection, went to the Place that God’s Spirit Dwelled so that He could Minister to us as the Levitical priests did for the Israelite people. He went to Heaven because that’s where the Mediation was to take place.

He had to go where the Spirit was so that He could act as the Conduit between us and God. The Priest Ministers in the Most Holy Place to take our needs to God and to Deliver His Mercy and Forgiveness to us.

Now that His Spirit was no longer Dwelling on Earth there had to be a Priest that could Exist where the Work was taking place and human priests just couldn’t fit the bill.

But there was another reason that Jesus was The Great High Priest and mankind could no longer act on that behalf. We needed a more Potent and Long-Lasting Sacrifice.

The Blood of Jesus was shed once and Covered the sins of all mankind for all eternity. The sacrifices that the Levitical priests made had to be offered every year and only covered the sins that the people committed annually up to that point.

Jesus’s Blood is able to cover future sins just as effectively as it can those from the past. His Power is so Superior to that of the blood of a cow or a goat that it made such sacrifices outmoded for all time.

So, Jesus is able to go where the Spirit is and His Blood is able to Cover all sins from any time, and as such, only has to be applied one time. This is why there is no comparison between the old order of priests and the Great High Priest.

Have a Terrific Tuesday and Stay Safe out there!
