DAILY WORD 6/25/20
1. So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.
2. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
3. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.
Hebrews 6:1–3 NLT
Today’s passage begins Chapter 6 of the Book of Hebrews and moves into the next phase of the author’s intention for his readers. In yesterday’s passage, he explained the need to grow into mature Christians and cease from drinking the “milk of the doctrine of Repentance” and said, it was time for his readers to begin the eat the “Strong Meat” of the Word of God.
Today he begins to explain his stance. In the first Verse the author tells them that it is time to stop going over and over the same Doctrine. They have already covered Jesus and His Resurrection, Repentance, Baptism, Eternal Judgment, and the like, on multiple occasions and they should have all this well in hand by now.
Before I get to that let me say that depending on where you are in your own Spiritual Walk with God these subjects may still be of great importance and focus for you. This is why I have been mentioning the concept of “Meat” since I began this commentary.
Not everybody is really ready for the “Strong Meat” of the Book of Hebrews, so if any of this goes over your heads don’t be disheartened, it’s simply not for you yet. You can’t expect to give an infant with no teeth a steak and think they are going to be able to handle eating it.
I’ve been doing this DAILY WORD commentary for over 6 years now, off and on, and I figured it was time to stop with the Psalms and Proverbs and get to some Doctrine with real Substance. That being said, again, this may not be for everyone.
For those of you that are still in the “Milk Phase”, there is no reason to feel bad about that. Everyone has their own rate of growth. the author was speaking to Christians who at the time should have been well aware of these Doctrines and he was moving them forward into more “Meaty” subjects.
Tomorrow we will begin to get to those but in the meantime, always remember that the Word of God is Revealed to us all as we are ready for it and not before.
As someone that has read through the entire Bible at least 3 or 4 times and some sections of it many more times than that, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read a portion of the Word and been completely blown away by a new understanding I was Granted upon the next reading that I had never understood prior to that.
No matter how many times you read the Word until God Decides to Give you the Understanding and the Revelation of its True Meaning, it will always be just words. Pray for Enlightenment and Study His Word and soon enough you too will graduate from “Milk” to the “Strong Meat” of the Word of God!
Have a Thought-Provoking Thursday and Stay Safe out there!
