DAILY WORD 5/27/20

5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalm 23:5–6 KJV

Today’s passage concludes the 23rd Psalm and it does so in grand fashion. David has taken us through Praise for our Guidance by the Good Shepherd, through green pastures of abundance, and by still waters of replenishment.

We have traversed through the restoration of our souls and righteous paths. We have even slogged through the Valley of the Shadow of Death fearlessly with the Rod and Staff of the Lord to Comfort us.

Now as we conclude, we see the True Bounty that God can Provide if we allow Him to Guide us through this life. After we have cheated death by His Mighty Hand and God has shown His Love through His Discipline and His Direction, even our enemies have to concede that we are Truly Blessed of God as they witness His Preparations for us.

A table of Bountiful Favor is set before us as our enemies watch. We have Protection from the Good Shepherd, so there is nothing they can do but watch as we dig into the Feast of Blessings that He has Prepared for us.

But that is not where the Blessings end. The Verse goes on to say that God will Anoint our heads with oil. This is a reference to the Holy Spirit that He Bestows upon us making an impact in every aspect of our lives from physical, to Spiritual, and even our Financial lives will be impacted.

Then as the Blessings continue to cascade around us, our cups overflow with His Blessings and Favor. This is when it is important to be a Blessing ourselves.

If our enemies see this Blessing and we have more than we need, what better than to share what we have with those around us and potentially convert those that once hated us to those that Love and Appreciate our Generosity and Charity, witnessing the Love of God through our actions?

As we look at the last Verse, we see that this Bounty of Blessings is not just a one-time thing. His Goodness and Mercy will go with us wherever we go throughout our lives.

So even as we traverse that dark and foreboding Valley of Death, His Blessings are still with us. When we are sorrowful, His Blessings are still with us. When we are Satisfied, still Blessed. No matter where His Guidance takes us, we can count on His Blessings, Favor, Mercy, and Goodness following us there!

But ultimately, there is going to come a time when the Journey is over and we will be done with the hard trek through this life. When it is all said and done, there is a Place Prepared for us where we will have the Decided Privilege to Dwell with the Lord Himself forever!

This is what walking with the Lord’s Guidance Affords us. It doesn’t matter what comes against us, a virus, pain, sorrow, financial difficulties, or even death itself! With God as our Good Shepherd, we have only Ultimate Joy to look forward to!

So don’t get so caught up in the everyday dramas of life. Look ahead to what really lies in store for us and allow the struggles of this life to fall away. We are being Directed into the Perfect Path for our Ultimate Benefit, regardless of how it may look to us in the midst of it all.

Trust the Good Shepherd to do what He has Promised to do and walk the Path He has Provided with Faith, Patience, and Courage. In the end, you win! That is the Bottom Line. With God as our Guide, we are Victorious!
