Today’s Passage, at last, concludes Chapter Ten of the Book of Psalms. We’ve been covering this Chapter for a good while due to multiple job responsibilities and time constraints placed upon my schedule. Single Shot was designed so that I could continue my DAILY WORD posts while still cutting down on the morning writing time. Not sure if I pulled it all off, but it was worth a shot! (Like what I did there?)
As we finish off this Passage, David gives us another opportunity to see what “the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man” looks like and why it might “avail much.” As he addresses God in his desperation, David leaves us a perfect example of what Effective Prayer looks like.
Let’s be clear here if David never had these issues, we’d likely not have this example. But there is something else to emphasize that is inferred from David’s model as we conclude this Chapter. If there is an effective and correct method for garnering God’s Favor and Blessings through prayer, then that must mean that there are ineffective ones as well.
As decisive as David’s illustrations may be, praying blindly without any guardrails or specificity may be worse than omitting prayer altogether! Consider this; if Newton’s Third Law is correct, and every action has an equal and opposite reaction, does that include the Spiritual Realm?
David was praying about tangible, physical threats to his life, health, and well-being. We often face more existential, less violent threats, though no less aggressive or harmful. Still, just because we are often not confronted with death at the hands of our issues, they can still feel like it!
That means that the kind of prayer and what is stated are of utmost importance if you want to change your situation. You cannot just think that adjustment needs to occur and hope that will do it. Oh no! You’ve got to be intentional and specific with what you want from God. It takes wisdom and consideration to formulate an effective prayer, especially when you are in the midst of your trouble.
If you want to make a change, you have to know what it takes to Effect God’s Will. It has been Chronicled throughout the Word of God that He is Willing to Alter His Will if we are willing to Touch His Heart. But to do that, we have to know what Tactics Affect God.
David understood this, and as he prayed in his desperation, he left us with this Blueprint to Victory over nearly any foe. Even Spiritual wickedness cannot overcome God’s Protection, so it is only our ignorance and lack of Faith that holds us back.
With the proper motivation, the correct approach, and a righteous heart, any of us can offer up a prayer that will rework the enemy’s plans against us, adjusting what he meant for our downfall and turning it around for our benefit! But to do that, you have to know how to pray.
I know it may sound harsh, but thank God for David’s trials! Without them, we’d have missed this Lesson! He was humble, respectful, and specific about what he wanted, plus he offered Praise before he ever saw his answer! It is an Example we can take with us into any conflict or situation and come out the other side unscathed.
God Promised that He’d have our backs, but we have to know how to evoke His Power to see it at work. It may not be solely for your benefit, there are others who might need your strength. Maybe God is using your trials to uplift someone else, like David. That is why knowing how to pray is so essential. Otherwise you’re just saying useless words and not praying at all! And what good is that?
