CHARACTER TRAITS OF THE WICKED (PT. 14)
16. The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.
Psalm 10:16 NLT
Alright, we’ve been plugging slowly away at this Scripture for the better part of two months, and honestly, I’m about ready to move on. I’ve been taking this Psalm Verse by Verse because my amended schedule has constrained my writing time. However, with only three Verses remaining, I’m going to go ahead and knock this one out next session.
That being said, let’s get back to it! Today’s Passage, another Single Shot Verse, gives us maybe the most critical aspect of bringing any request to God. Now, let’s remember what this entire Passage was about. David was facing unprecedented violence and denigration from physical enemies. He wanted God to do something decisive about his situation.
In his supplication, David has left us with one of the most influential and comprehensive documents on how to elicit God’s Hand of Change that we have ever been offered. He gives us a clear view of how to ask correctly to receive the answer from Him that we seek.
David is both specific and detailed in his requests and descriptions of his detractors. There is no question about his motives or desires because he has clearly and distinctly stated them. But beyond that, David has another “trick” up his sleeve that we would do well to identify and model in our own prayer lives.
When you want something from God, there is no better method for Evoking His Presence than to Offer Him Praise. It is no wonder that only twelve chapters hence, David states this fact expressly in another very similar Psalm. Verse 3 of Psalm 22 shows us that David understood the Power of Praise and why it was so transformative.
He said that despite his trouble and God seemingly ignoring his cries, he knew The Indominable God of All Creation Dwelt amid Israel’s Praise. David understood that even at his worst, if he could find the wherewithal to offer God the Majesty and Honor that He deserves, He would show up!
That is exactly what he is displaying in Today’s Passage. He doesn’t say it as clearly as in Chapter 22, but the dynamic is still evident. David gets it! He knows what it takes to get God involved in his situation.
The first thing to do is Acknowledge Him and His Ability to Change the Circumstance. Then you have to state your issue clearly and decisively, leaving out no detail, regardless of how embarrassing or seemingly mundane.
Then, before you ever see God’s Hand of Change making alterations in your condition, Praise Him for His Effort, and in that Praise, tell Him what you seek. It may sound something like this, “God, you are Spectacular in your Glory for binding these men’s ability to harm my family and me. I appreciate You Applying your Power in this situation!”
That may not be word for word what you say, but I think you get the idea. If God Inhabits our Praise, then how else do you think you should begin and end a request to Him? With Praise! But David didn’t just Praise God here. He stated his desires too.
He said, in essence, “The Wicked, whose Character Traits I have already stated, have been eradicated from our lands!” That is how David offered his Praise to God, with a specific result in mind. That is not a presumptuous prayer; it is Effective Battle Tactics! David was a man of war, and when he prayed, his mentality bled over. But that is why this Chapter is so vital to us today.
When we are facing the kind of Spiritual Battles that David faced, we now have Battle Tactics to fight back! Study David’s Psalms, and you can build a platform from which to launch devastating attacks against the enemy! Directed Prayer, Specific Requests, and Situational Praise are all part of the Attack Plan!
The enemy isn’t slowing down, and neither should we. But we have to know the Proper Tactics to be effective in our fight. David’s desperate prayer is our Blueprint to Victory but consider that we’d never have these strategies if he never experienced any trouble. In the same vein, if you can overcome your trials, your Victory may become the Blueprint for someone else’s Triumph! Your pain can become someone else’s Strength!
