Character Traits of the Damned (Pt. 1)
3. For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD.
Psalm 10:3 NLT
Today’s DAILY WORD continues the thought from Verse that David began there. He talked about the actions of the wicked and covered their Pride. He also touched on their persecution and mistreatment of the poor and the traps they set.
Today, and over the next several Single Shot posts, we will cover David’s portrayal of the actions of wicked and ungodly individuals. These are the things we should look for when we assess the viability of the activities of those around us. The question becomes; are you hosting the enemy, or are you opposing them?
David describes how those who do not love God or care about His Kingdom conduct themselves. It mirrors what we may encounter when those same individuals confront us. As we serve God, those who oppose our stance will inevitably appear because they resist God Himself.
As David indicated in the second Verse, sometimes traps are set up for our destruction that we may never even see. In those times, it is imperative to know the enemy’s tactics because they may not be coming to confront us directly. At the same time, those very adversaries may be staring us in the face, waiting for us to fall into the snares they set themselves.
One of the reasons the Psalms are so beloved is that David’s desperate plea to the Lord acts as one of the greatest blueprints for our defense against evil that we could have ever asked for. That is one of the reasons I write; to defend against an unseen attack, you must first recognize the applied tactics.
David wrote this supplication to God to portray his festering frustration and justified rage, not to mention his tangible fear. In his illustration of the trouble he was facing, David left us with dynamite to blow away any obstructions our detractors may place in our paths.
Never deny your pain or your vexation, and don’t try to ignore it or brush it under the rug. David’s heartfelt outcry to God so many years ago has become our training regiment and rallying cry! Give voice to your frustrations, but speak them to God in a manner becoming His Authority.
God deals in emotion, and apparently, He “suffers violence.” Now, I don’t claim to know exactly what that means. But I do know from experience that He’s alright with us yelling, screaming, and expressing ourselves in whatever manner is necessary to articulate our angst and disputes. He is a God that will listen to our gripes and respond if we ask in Faith, with the right mental attitude and emphasis.
Let Him Fight your battles, and you win. Period! But we must first know and be prepared to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. The Knowledge that David has bestowed on us is so that we can defend the weak and know that God can effect change and He is willing to do so. All we have to do is give our concerns to Him and Believe He WILL do it.
Next Single Shot, we’ll talk about the Pride of the wicked, which drives their misdeeds. Until then, know your enemy so you’ll see attacks before they are imminent. Be ready to act when you see injustice because it may come for you next. And finally, never be afraid to express your feelings to God. It may be a Blessing to someone who needs it, and that person might be you!
